Skarsvag (Nordkapp) - Norway

To the Top of Europe: A North Cape Discovery

Today we are doing the lighter trip.  But the views should be amazing.  Clear blue skies today so we are blessed.  Tiny little town but we will have a wander around and see if we can spot the trolls. Did not spot Trolls but there was one store open in town, raise your hand if you can guess what they sold, in addition to delicious waffles.   Answer revealed later in the post.

Today most of our trivia team is on the late excursion and might miss it today.   In the world of cruising this is a top level stress event. Bob and I might have to see if another team will adopt us for the day.  Or we will be the losers in the corner drinking.  Either way not a hard way to spend an afternoon at the most northern point of the mainland of Europe.

Trivia update we ran into our team mates on the pier and they have asked for trivia to be delayed until they return….. so problem solved?

So I had low expectations of this trip, sure North most point sure, but then we got there and the weather is glorious.  So nice that as I type this I am wearing and tank top and I am warm.   This is nuts this far north.

A bus ride, a stop for a vista and then off to the big show.  The North Cape, it was wonderful, we could have used another hour at least as we wanted to see the views and not the displays, but once we saw those we had too little time to appreciate it.  So weird we could see Russia from the spot, cool but weird at the same time.

Bob did make some new friends at North Cap.

On the way back we stoped at a Sami store, they are the indigenous people here, their story seemed so familiar it was sad.  Did not buy anything there but was a nice stop.

By the way did you know that all the reindeer in Norway are owned by Sami families, they are kind of their sheep.  We saw lots sorry not many pics but I promise we saw lots.

Then back to tour, as we drive into town the tour guide pointed out a red house and said proudly that this was the only store in town, and hold onto your glasses it was a Christmas store.  Who would predict that a self proclaimed Christmas collection problem person would end up in the northern most town attached to Europe would find a Christmas store.  Even some of the crew on our tour turned to me and said, we know where you are going. Purchases made, but only stuff made locally.  We also had a waffle and Bob had a coffee.

Back on board, quick lunch then since it is so warm, champagne and chocolate on the balcony.  How warm you say, Bob is wearing his bathing suit and I am in a tank top.

Who knows what trivia will hold but I am drinking champagne in the sun so……
