June 11. Last day on the ship - Alkhornet
JUNE 11 2025, WEDNESDAY Last day on the ship
Sorry no pics yet it is a busy day being the last one on the ship.
A morning hike. Birds, rocks and reindeer. Bob helped save our guide who went thigh deep in the snow. It is so soft you can disappear if you are not careful.
Bought our polar plunge tshirts as the store will be closed later. So we officially used up all of our onboard credit, well done us.
Morning trivia and point redemption, what crap can we buy. Bob chose a baseball hat and mug, yes Janice we had that many points. In fact, each group after they bought what they wanted they passed back their unused points to the next person so they could get something nicer. And people say there are not nice people in the world.
Lunch and pack. Lunch was Italian so I could actually eat at the buffet so that was nice.
Afternoon zodiac ride, we were the last people on the last zodiac, so we got to just have 4 in our little black death boat. As we got in we heard over the radio that walrus had been sighted on the ice so our guide, Dot, headed out at top speed to get there. It was nice to see them but the best was just to have 4 people who all wanted to be quiet and just enjoy the sound of the ice, yes it makes noise and drink in the beauty of the space.
Then at 4:30 POLAR PLUNGE.
Then dinner with our favourite waiter Alan, he was on our last trip and we just love him, he always makes sure the chef has things I can eat. And he topped himself tonight, I got modifications made to each course and they even turned an app into a main for me. For dessert he joked lemon tart for dessert? And I said what I really wanted was the sticky toffee pudding from a few days ago. And out it came a double serving so Bob could have some too. What a special ship who try to make everyone special. As people dropped by our table to say goodbye they all said why do you always have the best food.
Then put out our bags in the hall and shed a tear that this is over and off to bed.
It has been a great trip, not sure if too long or just with no darkness my system is starting to complain, but we have the weekend to sleep.
